Hi all,
Friday August 28th is Showtime Venturer Night.
South Metro Showtime is an annual show put on by the Scouts and Guides of South Metro Region. For several years, they have run a Venturer Night, where Venturers come and watch the show, then are bussed to an after party (with food, drink and DJ provided).
The show is always entertaining, the party is always fun, and several members of the unit are in the show (Ross, Dale, Ariel, David + myself and Tyrell), so I hope you will all be coming along (it's been in the unit program for months!)
So, the details:
Where: Alexander Theatre, Monash Uni, Clayton (show) & 1st West Waverley Scout Hall, Fairway Ave, Mt. Waverley (party)
When: Fri Aug 28, 7:30pm (show start) - 1:00am (party finish)
Cost: $25 for show and party.
Other notes: You need to be dropped off at the theatre, and picked up from the party hall. Everything in between is taken care of. No uniform is required, but wear your unit scarves so your friends in the cast can pick you out in the audience!
If you are coming, you will need to bring your $25 next week and give it to Phil. (I will then collect it all from him and book the tickets)
If you (or your parents) have any questions, please let me know.
Cheese's Surprise Night - Aug 18
Hi all.
This week is my surprise night.
You'll find out what's happening when you get to the hall, but things you will need are:
- Warm clothes, and a raincoat if the weather demands
- Enough money for a Zone 2 train/bus ticket
- A decent sense of direction
Make sure you bring your uniform too, because at the end of the night, we'll be doing Dale's going-up to Rovers.
Also, while you guys are doing your thing, the 1st Central Moorabbin AGM will be happening in the hall. So, if you're from 1st Central, make sure you let your parents know, so they can come along and find out what's happening.
See you all on Tuesday!

Back to Scouts Night - 10th, 11th and 13th August
Next week is another scheduled "Back to Scouts" week, where over the course of the week you will go back to your own Troop's, or another Troop's night and run a short game for them, as well as take part in the rest of the Troop's activities for the night. The aim is for the Scouts to see some Venturers, have some fun with them, and hopefully they will be encouraged to join when they are old enough!
The plan for our game is to run "The Chocolate Game" - the one where everyone sits in a circle, takes it in turns to roll a dice, and if you roll a six you get to cut a piece off a block of chocolate one piece at a time until someone else rolls a six. Myself or Tyrell will bring along the supplies you need.
I have put together a roster for each night which is as follows:
Monday - Bailey Reserve (meeting at our hall currently)
Andrew Hill, James Palmer, Ross Pirrone
Tuesday - 1st McKinnon (Station St, McKinnon, next to McKinnon Station)
Josh Butler, Shaun Hoogerwerff, Nathan Johnstone (optional: Matt Hince, Grace Stewart)
Tuesday - 9th Caulfield (end of Ricourt Ave, Murrumbeena)
Phil Gamble, Michael Cooper (optional: John Wallace, Adrian Neyland)
Thursday - 1st Central Moorabbin & 5th Caulfield (at our hall)
David Gnieslaw, Jessy Metcalfe, Ariel Zohar, Jess Driscoll (optional: Daniel King, Jess Phelan)
NB. Those who are still linking or not yet invested into the Unit are down as optionals, there is no obligation for you to turn up, but you are more than welcome to.
If you are unable to make the night you have been allocated, please let me know ASAP, and also tell me if there is another night that is more suitable for you.
If you have any other questions, please call/sms/email me.

Fantastic Race - Desperately Seeking Venturers!
ED - Thanks to Dale and Ariel for assisting myself and Gary this morning.
This Saturday (August 1) is the Scout's Fantastic Race.
We have been asked, and had agreed, to run an activity on Saturday morning. Now I just need a few Venturers to come along and assist.
Our activity is at the 5th Mordialloc Hall in Governor Rd, Mordialloc.
You need to be there at 8:45am and we will be done by 2pm at the latest (probably before then). If you need a lift there and back, I can arrange that.
Even if you can only make part of the time, please come down and lend a hand.
The point of this exercise is for the Scouts to see Venturers, it doesn't work if there's no Venturers there!
If you are able to make it, please email or SMS me and let me know.

Combined Unit meeting 21st July
This week is a Combined District Unit night being run by Hellsgate Rover Crew.
However, as their hall is unavailable for the night, they're going to use ours!
So all you have to do is turn up at the same place at the same time you normally do.
7:30pm at our hall, bring your shirt and scarf for parade, plus a warm jacket as there will most likely be outside activities. Finish is normal time, 9:30pm.

Prologue to 3rd Term
Following Unit Council on Tuesday night and the program for 3rd term being put together, I have put in the details for 3rd Term's activities into the Google Calendar, which shows up to your right --->
Normal printable version to follow soon by email.
There had been discussion about running a Venturing Skills Hike in the last weekend of the holidays, however I have not had enough interest expressed, so this will not go ahead. We will look to do another one some time in the next month or two to cover those who have not yet completed their VS.
The rest of the program for the term will be discussed on our first night back, which is a hall night being organised by Unit Council.
I would also like to take time to discuss Queen's Scout badgework one-on-one with those who are looking to get started on this, time permitting on the night.
See you all back on the 14th of July.
